Unlock Your Songwriting Potential Today!
What does the Julliard School Of Music,
Mcgill Conservatory Of Music (where I attended),
and the Berklee College Of Music, have in common?
Besides costing 10s of thousands of dollars, they have a very similar curriculum covering Music Theory, Ear Training, Arrangement, Orchestration, Composition...etc. It's quite lengthy and involved and very convoluted.
The Melody Experiment is a condensation of the most relevant and useful data pertaining to songwriting that I have come across in both formal education and practical experience, over many years of songwriting, simplified so that anyone can apply it to write their own songs regardless of musical background.

Extras:
The full course is divided into 3 core modules comprising everything you will need to help you write your next song.
The training provided in this course is unique in that it is a culmination of formal studies and real world practical writing developed over a couple of decades using a wide variety of songwriting techniques.
The 3 modules that comprise the course are carefully divided in a way that simplifies the songwriting process by breaking it down into 3 main sections: Harmony, Melody, Lyrics.
Once divided in this way we dive deep into each area and then put it all together, with chord progressions laying the foundation for a powerful melodic line which is then given meaning by great lyrics.
In addition to the core modules there is the Producer's corner. Here we touch on all the additional resources that will take your song to the next level and prepare it for release and present it to the world.
THE MODULES
HARMONY
It all starts with laying a foundation for your song and this usually is in the form of a chord progression.
Understanding the various types of chord progressions and how they can influence the type of song you will write is an essential tool in a songwriter's arsenal.
In this module we will cover everything from the basics, to the circle of fifths, to unusual chord progressions, and onto advanced progressions.
MELODY
It's safe to say that the melodic line of a song is the song.
Not everyone will agree with this statement but when we break it down you will see this to be true.
This module really is the heart of the course. In this module we will dive deep into melodic structure and discover what makes a melodic line great and also how we can write memorable and powerful melodies using a variety of techniques.
LYRICS
The 3rd and final module is all about lyrics and giving meaning to our song.
Here we will explore the world of storytelling and fitting syllables into phonetically pleasing phrases.
We will take a look at rhyming and rhyming structures and use umbrella subjects like love, time, joy, pain...etc to write a story, as well as personal experiences and how to fit that into a song that resonates with the listener.
THE PRODUCER'S CORNER
All The Supplemental Data Needed To Transform Your Song Into A Fully Produced Track
STRUCTURE
The layout and structure of your song is important. The verse, chorus, bridge, break...all play a vital role in the presentation of your song.
Of course, not all songs follow the same pattern so we will explore a variety of different structures.
Here you will find all the resources needed to work out the structure of your creation.
ARRANGEMENT
Arranging and orchestrating your song will give it an identity and genre. This is where you decide what colour you want to paint your creation in.
Rock, pop, hip hop, classical, jazz, funk...your song has the potential to fit in any of these genres.
We'll explore every aspect of arranging and the impact it can have on a song.
RECORDING
A song must be recorded if it is to be shared widely. In this section we will dive deep into the recording process and how you can present your song in a professional manner with a modest budget.
Professional level recording has become more readily available to everyone in the past several years. Gone are the days when the only option was a very expensive high end studio.

ABOUT ME
The Melody Experiment is the result of 1000's of hours and 1000's of songs and collaborations, along with formal instruction at the Mcgill Conservatory of Music and the Trebas Institute of the Recording Arts.
I picked up the guitar at the age of 15 and quickly became obsessed with it. But soon after, I "accidentally" stumbled on another obsession, writing songs.
There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling than coming across a germ of an idea, and then exploring and developing it until it matures into a new song.
From the sense of discovery when the idea first arrives, to the sense of accomplishment of the finished song, there really is nothing like it.
And now, I have made it my life's purpose to share that experience (Youtube & Facebook) and the songwriting techniques I have developed over the years with as many songwriters as possible.
SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IN A NUTSHELL, WHAT IS THE MELODY EXPERIMENT?
The Melody Experiment started off as just that, an experiment, a test, a question...is it possible to simplify the songwriting process? Is it possible to teach someone to write a song that does not have a lot of experience playing?
After many years of formal study and practical experience writing, producing and experimenting with different techniques, I am very happy to answer that question with an emphatic YES!
The real breakthrough occurred when I tested one of the techniques on my 11 year old daughter. She does not play an instrument and has no musical background except that she loves singing. She was the original "experiment" and after seeing how she was able to apply "The Favourite Mistake" technique to write her first song, I knew then that anyone could successfully apply the same data and get the same results.
HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?
The course itself is not very long. The 3 core modules comprise of 24 videos but there is a comprehensive resource section that includes The Producer's Corner that gets updated with new content regularly.
The production of a song involves a lot of moving parts, and although the primary objective of The Melody Experiment is to write a song, as we all know it usually doesn't end there. A full production requires many other skills and I've taken the opportunity here to include these in The Melody Experiment and share my many years of experience writing, arranging, recording, mixing, pitching to labels and publishers...etc.
WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED TO DO THE COURSE?
The only requisite to the course is that you have a passion for music and are eager to learn to write. And although playing an instrument and having some musical background is great and definitely an advantage, in this day and age, even if you don't, you can still make it happen with virtual instruments and by collaborating with other musos. This is especially true for lyricists, but collaborations are a big part of songwriting and a great way to write and can even be done remotely!
On the other side of the skills spectrum, if you have been around a while or are a pro, I am confident that you will benefit immensely from this program. Especially if you are struggling with writer's block. The techniques you will find in the Melody Module, specifically the 3 techniques I go over to write a melodic line, are sure to inspire you and get the creative juices flowing again.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE COURSE?
The Melody Experiment focuses on songwriting in it's literal sense...writing a complete song from start to finish. To accomplish this I cover the 3 essential parts of a song; Harmony, Melody, Lyrics. These are divided into 3 modules with the Melody module being the main focus and really the heart of the course where I go over the 3 songwriting techniques that I have developed over the years. Of the 24 videos, 12 of them are in the Melody module. That is how important the melodic line is.
You can have an amazing chord progression and the best lyrics in the world, but without a strong, catchy and memorable melodic line, the song will not be impactful.
Aside from the 3 core modules of The Melody Experiment, we cover structure, arrangement, recording and more. If it's song related, whether writing, producing or pitching, we'll be covering it with regular updates.
WHY IS THE COURSE SO CHEAP?
Because I want EVERYONE to have access to it! Simple as that. At $9 a month, anyone can afford it. Aside from that, I do offer a more personalised service with hourly video calls and private consultation, but the $9 membership has everything you need and covers all aspects of songwriting.
I designed it so that everything is under one roof. Like a one-stop-shop. As an up and coming singer/songwriter back in the day, I wish I had a resource that I could turn to with everything I needed to get my songs out there and at a price that didn't break the bank. That is the goal of The Melody Experiment, to provide an environment where songwriters, bands and producers can go and have all the resources they need to write that next big hit, and not have to pay a fortune to get it.
HOW GOOD IS YOUR GUARANTEE?
As good as it gets! There is no "fine print" or any other booby traps. All I can say is that if you are not happy for whatever reason, simply cancel your subscription and that will be the end of it. No questions asked.
Well actually I will ask a few questions because I love feedback and believe it's the only way to improve and grow, but you won't be "interrogated" as to why you cancelled.
The bottom line is that you don't have to worry at all when it comes to cancelling your membership should you wish to do so.
And on top of that, if you don't write a song within 30 days of signing up, I will write one for you!
